What do the words future, garage, and dubstep have in common?
Music hungry fans have been waiting for the announcement of the "next big genre" ever since the 15th Levels Remix. Have our prayers been answered with the OWSLA release of Skrillex's newest EP, Leaving?
Skrillex - Leaving
His new sound has people buzzing about this "new style". Some have said he's going back to his dubstep roots, some say it's a much needed move away from "brostep", and EVERYONE is coming up with new names to call this new genre.
Despite not having a clue what the official name of this genre really is, I've loved the sound for a while now and discovered some really amazing talent, each with their own unique sound and potential to be something huge when this genre takes off. I've created a list of the top 5 (lesser known) artists I've stumbled upon and have marked as up and coming "people to watch". Check out their tunes and follow them on Facebook and Twitter.
1. ViLLΛGE
My personal favorite of the post-dubstep future sound is ViLLΛGE, a up and coming artist from Romania. As a brand new producer, he puts a fantastic new spin on his remixes. His stuff is sensual and uplifting and quirky and playful at the same time. He's remixed everything from Cassie's hit, Me & You, Kreayshawn's Gucci Gucci, to Adventure Club's remix of Yuna's Lullabies. His most recent release with EMPT, Getting Late, even has a hard hitting dubstep feel. On top of his feel good and inspiration original works like Takeover and YORO, it sounds like ViLLΛGE has a big year ahead of him. Follow him on Soundcloud, like him on Facebook, and follow him on Twitter to stay updated.
2. aaron lipsett
Aaron Lipsett is a goofy, talented kid from Ireland who has released some of my favorite tunes that blend sultry with bubbly and upbeat. His Distraction November Mix is a must-listen and his original tunes Cognac, Know This, and Kinda Slow have immediately become instant replays. There is something really lovable and enticing about the rawness of Aaron's sound and style which reflects almost perfectly through his music. Check his Soundcloud for new tunes, like him on Facebook, and follow him on Twitter.
3. Ferris Mular
Jumping over to Australia, we stumble upon Ferris Mular in his natural wild habitat.. just kidding. Ferris combines hip hop with seductive future garage sounds, creating remixes of Kendrick Lamar's Poetic Justice, Janet Jackson's Got 'til It's Gone and soulful originals like Sirens and Whatchu Need. Ferris's soulful and passionate remixes add a geniune R&B feel to the world of future garage. Listen to his Soundcloud and like him on Facebook.
4. Data Romance
Canadian duo made up of Ajay and Amy brings the sweet innocence of indie folk and alluring beats of electronic together in the form of Data Romance. Hailing from Vancouver, this duo has been releasing song after song steadily building up their fan base, similar to that of The XX and Florence and the Machine. After the release of their EP, their singles Caves and Others have solidified their return and rise to the scene. Their newest release, Guard, came out today! Find them on Facebook, follow their Twitter, and purchase their tunes on iTunes.
5. MMOTHS
Another fantastic name from Ireland is known by MMOTHS (as he so explains on his Facebook page, the first m is silent). MMOTHS is on an escalating path towards becoming a big name and is touring and supporting The XX in the UK this year. MMOTHs has a deep, touching sound that resembles that of The XX and xxyxx. His understated tone is represented both in his persona and his music, creating his signature relaxing and soothing tunes. Blogs all over the Internet are eating his work up, and with the rise of future post-dubstep, there is no doubt MMOTHS will become a huge player in the game. His Soundcloud, Facebook, and Twitter.
Keep your eyes peeled for fantastic new music coming from these names!
